Maple Leafs’ Auston Matthews Becomes Highest-Paid Player in NHL

toronto maple leafs

Toronto Maple Leafs superstar Auston Matthews will be remaining in Toronto for years to come as he inked a four-year contract extension with the Leafs that will give Matthews the highest average annual value in the NHL at $13.25 million per season, according to Chris Johnston of SportsNet.

Matthews actually beat NHL journalists in announcing the big news, as he did so on social media as soon as the deal was completed.

“I feel fortunate to continue this journey as a Maple Leaf in front of the best fans in hockey! I will do everything I can to help get us to the top of the mountain. GLG! #LeafsForever” Matthews posted on X (formerly known as Twitter).

Matthews new deal will officially kick in at the start of the 2024-2025 season and barring another deal topping his, Matthews will enter that season as the highest-paid player in the National Hockey League.
