The Detroit Red Wings are doing their best to lockup pending unrestricted free agent Mike Green to ensure he doesn’t land with a new team this summer.
According to The Athletic’s Craig Custance, the Red Wings have offered one- and two-year contracts to the defenseman, who will be 33 next season.
“I anticipate whether he signs with us or someone else, he’ll be on the ice for the first day of training camp,” Red Wings general manager Ken Holland told Custance, per the report. “Everything, I’m told, he should be green-lighted for the first day.”
Green notched 33 points in 66 games for Detroit last season.
