Flyers’ Brian Elliott To Miss 5-6 Weeks After Core Surgery

The Philadelphia Flyers will be without goaltender Brian Elliot for 5-6 weeks after he underwent core muscle surgery on Tuesday, according to an announcement from the team.

Elliot suffered the injury on Saturday during the Flyers’ shootout victory over the Arizona Coyotes after falling awkwardly following a stick to the mask from Clayton Keller.

Philadelphia will not turn to Michal Neuvirth, along with Alex Lyon, to mind the net during Elliot’s absence.

Elliot posted a 2.72 goals-against average and .908 save percentage through 41 games in his first season with the Flyers.

The Buffalo Sabres have re-signed forward Sam Reinhart to a two-year deal that pays $3.65 million annually, according to an official team press release.

Reinhart set new career highs in games played (82), goals (25), points (50), power-play goals (12) and power-play points (21) during the 2017-18 regular season.

Blue Jackets Sign John Tortorella to Two-Year Contract Extension

The Columbus Blue Jackets have signed head coach John Tortorella to a two-year contract extension that will keep in with the team through the 2020-21 season, the team announced on Wednesday.

It makes sense for Columbus, who has experienced it’s most success under Tortorella’s watch, highlighted by a a franchise-best 50 wins and 108 point season in 2016-2017 that saw Tortorella walk away with that season’s Jack Adams Trophy as the league’s best coach.

“Our team has been one of the winningest in the NHL over the past two seasons and John Tortorella has played a critical role in that success and in raising the level of our team’s play since his arrival,” Blue Jackets’ general manager Jarmo Kekalainen said. “His passion and commitment to being the best has permeated our team and we believe will lead to even greater success in the future.”
