Jets, Blake Wheeler Agree to Five-Year Contract Extension

The Winnipeg Jets have inked captain Blake Wheeler to a five-year, $41.5 million contract extension, according to a team announcement.

Wheeler’s contract carries a cap hit of $8.25 million per season, and he is set to enter that last year of his six-year, $33.6-million contract, which would have made him an unrestricted free agent following the conclusion of the season, but his new deal ensures that he won’t hit free agency.

Last season, Wheeler put up a team-best 91 points, a career high.
