Bruins Sign Zdeno Chara To One-Year Extension

The Boston Bruins have signed 41-year-old defenseman Zdeno Chara, who was set to become an unrestricted free agent following the season, to a one-year extension, according to the team’s official website.

Chara, who is the second-oldest active player in the league, has spent 8 season with Boston and ranks seventh in franchise history in games played (888), and third in points by a defenseman (452) behind Hall of Famers Ray Bourque (1,506) and Bobby Orr (888).

The new one-year extension is worth $5.0M and includes up to $1.75M in performance bonuses.

Bruins’ Zach Senyshyn Out Four Weeks With Lower-Body Injury

Boston Bruins’ promising young forward Zach Senyshyn will miss around four weeks of action with a lower-body injury, according to a team announcement.

Senyshyn will be reevaluated in approximately four weeks.

In a corresponding move, the Bruins have recalled Trent Frederic from the AHL to take Senyshyn’s spot on the roster.

The Boston Bruins have activated veteran center David Krejci and he made his return to the team against the San Jose Sharks on Tuesday night.

Krejci, 33, was injured early in an October 14th game against the Anaheim Ducks, and his return is big news for the Bruins

Krejci notched 73 points last season for Boston, including a team-high 43 even-strength assists.

Bruins Place Jesse Gabrielle On Unconditional Waivers

The Boston Bruins have placed forward Jesse Gabrielle on unconditional waivers in another step towards contract termination, according to CapFriendly.

Gabrielle, 21, played his entire season in the ECHL, but his season was cut short after suffering another concussion back in March, his third head injury since training camp.

Gabrielle will now become an unrestricted free agent.
