The Boston Bruins have signed 41-year-old defenseman Zdeno Chara, who was set to become an unrestricted free agent following the season, to a one-year extension, according to the team’s official website.
Chara, who is the second-oldest active player in the league, has spent 8 season with Boston and ranks seventh in franchise history in games played (888), and third in points by a defenseman (452) behind Hall of Famers Ray Bourque (1,506) and Bobby Orr (888).
The new one-year extension is worth $5.0M and includes up to $1.75M in performance bonuses.
