New York Islanders forward Mathew Barzal was named January’s NHL Rookie of the Month, the league announced on Thursday.
Barzal, 20, led all rookies by notching 15 points in 12 games, highlighted by a 5-point performance, his second of the season, against the New York Rangers, scoring 2 goals and adding 3 assists.
With that performance, Barzal became the 7th rookie in NHL history to notch two 5-point performances. Barzal is currently pacing all rookie with 51 points so far this season.
