Buffalo Sabres defenseman Zach Bogosian will be sidelined for 4-6 weeks with a lower-body injury.
Bogosian was injured when he got tangled up in a battle for a loose puck with forward Evander Kane during practice on Wednesday.
“It was weird,” Kane told the Sabres website of the injury. “We were just kind of battling, got tangled up and we were both falling. Obviously he was in some discomfort, and it was kind of a freak accident.”
“It’s a tough blow for him,” Sabres coach Phil Housley said. “He’s been fighting through injuries this year and it’s difficult. It’s how the business goes, it’s how the game goes. It’s unfortunate, but it’s giving other players an opportunity.”
Bogosian was sidelined earlier this season, missing 25 games due to a lower-body injury.
“I think he was really, really good right when he got back, especially being out that long of a time stepping in,” Housley said.
“A lot of those games early on when he got back in, he was our best defenseman. Certainly we missed him up to that point just having the depth and what he brings day in and day out to the team. Moving forward here, it’s a setback.”
