The Florida Panthers have claimed goaltender Antti Nemi off of waivers on Tuesday, the club announced.
Florida now has a replacement for starter Roberto Luongo who suffered a thumb injury on Friday.
Niemi was waived Monday by the Pittsburgh Penguins after a horrendous start to the season
“Antti is a proven veteran who further stabilizes our organization’s goaltending depth,” Panthers general manager Dale Tallon said. “We’re happy to welcome him to South Florida.”
James Reimer will serve as the team’s starter for the time being and Niemi will serve has his backup.
