Sabres Acquire Conor Sheary, Matt Hunwick From Penguins

The Buffalo Sabres have landed both forward Conor Sheary and defenseman Matt Hunwick in a trade with the Pittsburgh Penguins, as announced on Wednesday.

Buffalo will send Pittsburgh a conditional 2019 4th-round draft pick in return.

According to Sportsnet’s Chris Johnston, there is no salary being retained in the deal.

Sabres Name Jack Eichel Captain

The Buffalo Sabres have named Jack Eichel team captain, becoming the 28th captain in franchise history and the first player to wear the ‘C’ since Brian Gionta did from 2014 to 2017, as the team did not name a captain last season.

Eichel signed an eight-year, $80-million contract extension last season and has led Buffalo in points each of the last 2 years.

Predators Acquire Nick Baptiste from Sabres for Jack Dougherty

The Nashville Predators have acquired forward Nick Baptiste from the Buffalo Sabres in exchange for defenseman Jack Doughtery in a trade that was announced by both teams on Monday.

Baptiste appeared in 33 games for the Sabres last season, scoring 4 goals and notching 2 assists. Baptiste was Buffalo’s 2013 third-round draft pick.

Dougherty has played the past 2 seasons with the Milwaukee Admirals, Nashville’s AHL affiliate team, where he registered 1 goal and picked up 11 assists over 63 games with the team last season.

Sabres Re-Sign Sam Reinhart

The Buffalo Sabres have re-signed forward Sam Reinhart to a two-year deal that pays $3.65 million annually, according to an official team press release.

Reinhart set new career highs in games played (82), goals (25), points (50), power-play goals (12) and power-play points (21) during the 2017-18 regular season.
