Oilers’ Ryan Nugent-Hopkins Out 5-6 Weeks

The Edmonton Oilers will be without Ryan Nugent-Hopkins for up to 5-6 weeks due to cracked ribs, according to TSN’s Ryan Rishaug.

The injury was not initially perceived to cost Nugent-Hopkins much time off the ice, but he  will need more than a month to recover.

Wayne Gretzky Believes Oilers Will Bounce Back

Wayne Gretzky, the vice-chairman of Oilers Entertainment Group, believes in the Edmonton Oilers, and he believes that the team can bounce back after a terrible 2017-2018 season.

“Our defense will be better, of that you can be assured,” Gretzky said, according to Robert MacLeod of The Globe and Mail. “I expect that Cam (Talbot, last year’s No. 1 goaltender) will bounce back from the struggles that he had. I think last year was just an outlier for him.

“Add that to the addition of the Finnish goalie (Mikko Koskinen), I think we have a solid two-goaltender system ready to roll.”

Oilers Sign Ryan Strome To Two-Year Deal

The Edmonton Oilers have reached an agreement with Ryan Strome on a two-year deal that will carry a annual average value of $3.1M, according to Sportsnet’s Chris Johnston.

Strome, 24, was acquired by the Oilers last offseason in a trade with the New York Islanders for Jordan Eberle.

Oilers Hire Glen Gulutzan, Trent Yawney As assistant coaches

The Edmonton Oilers made a pair of additions to their coaching staff by hiring Glen Gulutzan and Trent Yawney as assistant coaches, the team announced on Friday.

Gulutzan spent the last two seasons as the head coach of the Calgary Flames while Yawney played 593 NHL games as a defenseman with the Chicago Blackhawks, Flames, and St. Louis Blues.
