Market Heating Up For Thomas Vanek, Drew Stafford

NHL training camps are still about less than a month away and it can be a stressful time for any free agent who has yet to latch on to a new team.

But for free agents Thomas Vanek and Drew Stafford, the market is heating up, at least according to their agent Steve Bartlett.

”I do feel optimistic that something will come through for both of these guys in the next week or two,” Bartlett said in an interview with Buffalo’s WGR 550.

“And I think definitely the temperature has risen from teams around the league on both players.”

The Detroit Red Wings are staying in touch with free agent Thomas Vanek, according to Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press.

But with Detroit’s cap crunch it seems as though a deal will be unlikely.

The Boston Bruins have been keeping in contact with Stafford, whom they acquired at last season’s trade deadline, but Stafford may have to settle for a professional tryout instead.
